Chelek Vart, FreeRunner and, most recently, captain of the mistrunner Delisantros, did his best to keep the Xangoran vessel on course out of the gravity well of the planet.
In all of Mistspace there were few vessels more heavily armed or armored than a Xangoran dreadnought, but, in gravity, they handled with all of the speed and grace of a Troloskan pond scummer.
His first mate, Jalondo Tresk, looked decidedly worried, “Uhh…Cap’n, you have actually flown one of these accursed beasties before, yes?”
Though Tresk had served him for years as an able second, Vart scowled nevertheless, “You can question my piloting skills or you can get below decks and disable the transponder Tresk…your call.”

This is great... I love the names...
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeff. Been told I have a talent for naming characters
ReplyDeleteI so love your talent for telling so much in so little words. He loves to order his best friend around I think :D
ReplyDeleteThe world building here is perfect - I so want to know what a Troloskan Pond scummer is!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see a sci-fi tack on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteYou've taken us to another dimension. It's fun to see pirates in the world of SciFi!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff - a fully realized world and done so quickly. I don't know what he means, but I absolutely know what he means, when he compares the ship to a Troloskan pond scummer. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious to hear a bit more of the adventure they are on. I too loved the character names. It was easy to slide into the brief story and I enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteTrue loyalty. I'm afraid I'd make a terrible First Mate-I would have continued to question the Captain, threatening my very life with my headstrong ways!
