Though this would, in all likelihood, be the last evacuation
bus, it was hardly evident in the attitudes of the people laughing and chatting
in the terminal parking lot.
An aggravated Colonel William Barret Travis, US Army
Reserves, shouted through his megaphone. “People! This is not some half-assed
Indian casino bus tour. A herd of some 2500 Shamblers is converging on this
location. If you don’t get aboard and I mean NOW, they will kill and eat you before we can get clear of their advance.”
As if to punctuate his words, the first of the undead
came shuffling over the hill. Staring in horrified disbelief, Travis understood
how his namesake must have felt on his final day at the Alamo.

Shamblers, Zombies and Vampires to the back of the bus, please. Definitely an "oh crap!" moment. Well written.
ReplyDeleteNicely written, I'm still smiling, and like Rochelle, saying, "holy s--t, let's ride!"

Hi Jeffrey,
ReplyDeleteI liked your Alamo reference and the Shamblers sound like a scary group. Zombies are so popular right now. Great way to tap into a raging genre. Ron
Liked it a lot!! I think it's nice to mix some humor with Zombie stories if at all possible or with other horrible things (as in "The Lost Boys" for instance.) And the Alamo references were a nice touch.
ReplyDeletegood zombie story. Did any make it out ?

ReplyDeleteAre the 2500 Shamblers on horseback? If so, I hope that bus out races them ...and not run out of gas. Alamo reference...nice touch.
Dear Jeffrey,
ReplyDeleteI like this story. Shamblers. The Alamo reference. A nice piece of work.
Aloha,
Doug
