The streets bustled with the masses of humanity common
to any large-ish city. A steady stream of working class folks trudged up the
steps to the elevated train while the shops were awash with those completing one
errand or another.
Thomas watched the chaotic hubbub with a strangely satisfied
grin.
His expression changed to anger as, one by one, the
people dissolved into wisps of thick smoke borne away upon the breeze. His head
hurt too much to imagine them all back into existence today and so he was, once
again, alone in the silent, post-apocalyptic husk of the city.

Interesting. Poor fellow.
