Shaking her grizzled head from side to side, the old woman chuckled softly. “What I said, child, is it’s true I do has me a concoction of one sort or t’other to do some powerful amazin’ stuff, but just plain ain’t no such of a thing as no fairy-tale lovey potion. See, child, whilst what I mixes up might seem magical to some, what you gots to understand is Love be the strongest kinda REAL magic there is and I just can’t do me no real magic like that!”

Quite a few entries have gone down the love potion track. Yours is the only one to reverse it.

I like this! No potion can create love -- only infatuation. I think that's been the message of most "love potion" stories. And you've said it well here, too! :-) Nice work!

ReplyDeleteYou do an impeccable job with your dialects, so of course I love Madame Zirconia. A less scrupulous witch would sell a potion to the naive girl and claim it was a love potion, so the willingness to lose business before deceiving a consumer is pretty awesome from a potion vendor.
